Library in Old Mill Park

Dear Grandma:

Mom probably told you that Jack’s company transferred him to San Francisco. Neither of us had ever been to California. We found a nice house to rent in Mill Valley, a suburb of San Francisco.  We are very happy here. Jack works from home three days a week and two days in the city. I spend a lot of my time in the Mill Valley Public Library working on my next novel. It’s a beautiful building in a redwood forest in a public park. Downstairs is the History Room. It has a large collection of maps, photo albums, relevant books, legal records, oral histories, business directories, old telephone books and clippings of old newspaper articles. There is also a collection of books by a large number of local authors. I volunteer as a docent in the History Room. I help visitors search for information, sometimes answering telephone inquiries. I also spend time acquainting myself with the interesting history of Mill Valley as well as working on the novel. The Kathleen Norris Memorial Park is nearby. She grew up in the house there.  As you know, she is my favorite novelist.

Love,

Carol
