February 2021 First Wednesday Talk – Flying High with Big Brother and the Holding Company & Janis Joplin with Dave Getz

In September 1960, a young student named David Getz abandoned his plans to attend Yale University and instead drove from New York to California in three days to study art at the SF Art Institute and embrace the California bohemian lifestyle. Getz later turned his attention from art to music and became a member of one of the world’s most quintessential rock bands, Big Brother and the Holding Company. Join the Mill Valley Historical Society for an evening of musical reminiscing as Dave Getz shares his life, his loves, and the loss of his dear friend — one of the most influential music and fashion icons of the 1960s — Janis Joplin.
