Charlie Kelly, co-founder of the MountainBikes company and organizer of the Repack races, recounts the complete and often unbelievable history of the rise of mountain biking and its lasting culture in his new book. “Fat Tire Flyer: Repack and the Birth of Mountain Biking.”
Charlie is a Mill Valley native and an alumni of Park, Edna Maguire, and Tam High. He’s written for VeloNews and Bicycling, and is currently the U.S. mountain bike correspondent for Rouleur and Privateer magazines. He and Gary Fisher founded MountainBikes, selling Tom Ritchey’s first mountain bike frames as complete bikes. Charlie was also the founder and reigning official of the Repack mountain bike races in Marin, California. He was founder, editor and publisher of Fat Tire Flyer, the first mountain bike magazine. He is the supreme archivist of the origin of the sport of mountain biking.
“Fat TIre Flyer” is the perfect holiday present. Charlie will sign books following his talk.
There is no charge, but non-MVHS members are encouraged to join. Memberships will be available at the door.
