Our annual Walk Into History is over. Check back in 2023 for a new guided walk.
Thank you for joining us to “MEET THE MOUNTAIN RAILWAY!”, our 43rd annual Walk Into History on May 29, 2022. Our 14 sold-out tours led over 300 walkers through Blithedale Canyon to follow the first mile of the route of the Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway as it headed toward its destination on the top of Mt. Tamalpais during the years 1896-1930.
Along the way, we met businessmen, conservationists, suffragists and enthusiasts of Japanese art, and learned about the hotels that thrived at the turn of the 20th century, the big fires that devastated Mill Valley and the Japanese village built in the 1890s at Marsh Drive. One of our tours was adapted especially for school age walkers and their parents.
Activities in the plaza included tables with docents ready to explain more details about the railroad and especially, Engine No. 9 and gravity cars, the four different Depot structures, and the fires.
The next Walk Into History will be May 28, 2023. Check back here in January 2023 to learn more about that walk.
