Annual Walk into History

Just around the corner: Our 44th Annual Walk Into History is Sunday, May 28, 2023.

Learn all about the “Rock and Roll Mecca” that was Mill Valley in the 1960s – 1980’s.

This is a new format for MVHS and our Walk Into History. It features:

Live and recorded music, interviews with the musicians, films, and opportunities to share your own memories and stories. Live music from Rita Abrams, Dore Coller, the Vivants, Some Acoustic Stones and Fat Saturday Night. Live interviews with Charlie Kelly, John Goddard, Tim Cain, Mitch Howie, John Allair. Videos of many of the musicians who put Mill Valley on the rock ‘n roll map, including Marty Balin and Jesse Barish. View the Schedule here.

Self-guided walks using a map to lead you to the locations where you can learn the stories of the people and places that contributed to Mill Valley’s outsized influence on music and culture. At many stops, docents will stand by to help access and share the stories.

Take a trip to the heady days of 1960s-1980s Mill Valley as “a Rock and Roll mecca” in a walking tour of downtown locations connected to this music history. See the music halls and music stores frequented by both homegrown and world-famous musicians and bands.

This is an all-day event, beginning at 9 am and ending at 4 pm. Tickets include live and recorded events at Sweetwater Music Hall, 142 Throckmorton and the downtown plaza. 

Tickets also include self-guided tours and start at the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce office on Throckmorton Avenue. How does this work?

Children are welcome. Well-behaved dogs on leash allowed at outdoor venues.

Note: Mill Valley and Marin County COVID regulations in place at the time of the Walk will apply.
