Annual Walk into History

Our annual “Walk Into History” is back!

Relive the Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods Scenic Railway’s heydays during the early 20th century. Learn about Engine No. 9, the Lee Street Local and George Marsh. Hear stories of homes, hotels and early residents along the route of the Railway through Blithedale Canyon.

Guided tours start at the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce office on Throckmorton Avenue and follow the route through Blithedale Canyon. Return to the Plaza at the end of the walking tour via shuttle bus (except for the 10:30am and 1:30pm tours). Children welcome; no dogs.

Marin County and City of Mill Valley COVID regulations in place at the time of the Walk will apply.

Tours will depart every 30 minutes starting at 9am. The last tour starts at 3:30pm. The route is 1.5 miles long and will take approximately 90 minutes. Most tours will have a bus to return you to the Plaza. The 10:30am and 1:30pm tours will not have a return bus so participants will need to walk back to the Plaza on their own, a round trip of 3 miles.

NEW! We’ve just added a family-friendly tour especially for young people at 3:00 pm. School-age offspring with a parent will like this train-oriented adventure.
